Battle Report December 5 2009
Jim and Evan played a 40K game of 1500 points. The Mission was Capture and Control. Jim placed his objective about 17" out and on the left flank. Evan placed his objective about 6" out and centered. Both players played Dark Angels. Jim took Belial and the Deathwing, evidently trying to prove something to Azrael, the Grand Master, who led Evan's army.
EVAN JIM
The set up was Dawn of War, and Jim got the initiative. Jim placed his units, and on turn 1, Jim entered all but 1 unit of terminators. Not much shooting occurred, night fight - Oh Well! Jim advanced to the ruined tower with a Terminator Unit, controlling that part of the field.
Evan's turn was largely uneventful as well. The command squad was able to detect moving terminators in the dusk but was unable to score any hits. The turn ended with the rest of Evan's army running up a few more inches.
On Turn 2, Jim's remaining Terminators arrived via deep strike. His Whirlwind popped a single Marine. Jim was staying fairly clustered, advancing slow and purposeful on the left flank. Advancing into strategic positioning, but other than that an uneventful turn.
Evan's turn 2 saw him waste 1 Terminator. He advanced in the center, yet held his objective with the command squad. None of Evan's reserve force did not enter the fray.
Jim came out with a vengeance in turn 3. His land Raider blasted the Dreadnaught into immobilization. The Machine Spirit, dummed down version used by the Dark Angels, popped a Rhino sitting on the hill, destroying the missile launcher. Jim's Dreadnaught unloaded the Assault Cannon on a Tac squad, rending 1 man. Jim's Terminators assaulted Evan's badly maimed Tac Squad. The fight was loud as the Thunder Hammers boomed, the Lightning Claws flashed, and the power weapons powered! After the dust settled, only 2 wounds per side were inflicted.
Evan's Assault squad entered from reserve on turn 3, but missed its mark badly, going 11 inches backward. None of Evan's shooting did any harm, and the Termies in combat with the Tacs were both swatting at air.
Jim's turn 4 started out with a bang! He pummeled the Assault Squad with every shot he could, and when the smoke cleared, there was a lone gunman standing. The Termies bested the Tac squad for 1 wound, but the Rites of Battle kept the Tac squad in place.
Evan began his 4th turn, trying to advance on the flank, but could not get far enough to contest anything. His shooting was quite uneventful, and as the assault phase began, things looked bleak for Evan. The Termies and the Tac were still locked, and the Assault squad remained alive against the Tacs.
In the end, Jim was victorious, as Evan held back a bit too long with a scoring unit, and Jim advanced quickly to bust up Evan's plans. Jim's Terminators as scoring units proved just too tough for the Tactical Marines. The Land Raider was a big part, as it ended the Dread's dread.
