Normally, after the live broadcast is complete, Mr. Scudder will set the recorded broadcast to rebroadcast in a continuous loop (with halftimes and between games dead air included). So if you missed the broadcast, but would like to hear it in its entirety, you may be able to listen beginning later the same night after the games, or the next school day, whenever Mr. Scudder is available. In addition, if you missed the game but would like a brief recap, we have set up a weblog. Follow the address below (which is also a link):

You can also post a response to the summary, although you'll have to register.

If you view our live audiocasts, please let us know with a note to webmaster@brashear.k12.mo.us

This web page is set to refresh every two minutes, so don't bother trying to connect to the broadcast until your browser reports that the Tiger Basketball broadcast is "On the Air!" and a little satellite dish appears. It's then that you should connect to the stream using one of the links below. Once we go on the air, (and you have connected to the stream), we normally will continue broadcasting (and you will remain connected to the stream) until the end of the last game. There may be periods, however, of near silence, particularly prior to the start of the game, at halftime, or between games. Assuming we remember to turn the mic on, you should probably hear something, though, like the pep band, or other background noise. If you hear that, then rest assured we'll be there shortly. Occasionally, your media player may have to rebuffer. That is not uncommon, particularly if you have a dialup connection. Sit tight, the connection should reestablish itself. If you feel, after waiting a bit, that you've lost the connection, just start over.

There are several ways to connect to Brashear Basketball Radio. Choose the one that works best for you. We suggest trying the following options in order.

1. Best. Listen to the direct stream in your media player by clicking on the blue link below:

We say this is the best because it will open your media player and you will have complete control using your player's controls (Sometimes it actually will open the stream directly in your browser, although the player is working in the background, you just don't see it).

This, of course, assumes that you have a media player installed. Most of you will have one (or more) already installed, even if you didn't know it. One or more may have been installed at the factory when your computer was built, or later if you re-installed the original Operating System, or an upgrade. Or you may have installed a media player to watch or listen to something on the internet. There are several media players available. Some are better than others, particularly for streaming mp3 files, which we use. The following are our suggestions for listening to Tiger basketball broadcasts. Please bear in mind that as you install updates over time to your player, the installers may change your preference settings in your browser (Sneeky little programs aren't they?). So, for example, if you install iTunes and everything works great, if you later install a new version of Microsoft's Media Player, it may change your browser's preferences to redirect mp3 audio to it which it won't play. So all of a sudden your browser may no longer work in listening to Brashear Basketball broadcasts. The solution, of course, is to set your browser's preferences to play mp3 files through a player that will actually play mp3s. Troubleshooting preferences is a little beyond the scope of this page, but here is a link that might help if you want to tackle that problem.

Windows Mac Other
  • iTunes Installs Quicktime too, but won't work on Windows 98 and older
  • QuicktimeAlready installed if you have iTunes
  • Winamp
  • Realplayer(There should be a link in the corner for the free player)
  • Windows Media Player - some versions will work and some won't!
  • iTunes (for OSX only)
  • iTunes 2.04 (the last version for OS9 (9.04 or later required))
  • QuicktimeAlready installed if you have iTunes. Works great for OS 9 and earlier
  • Realplayer(There should be a link in the corner for the free player)
  • Use your main media player, such as XMMS
  • If that can't handle it, Quicktime or Realplayer should know what to do!

2. Next Best. Use one of our popup players. Most people should be able to click on the link above and start listening straight away. The link will download a "playlist" file with the extension .pls, which should load into the appropriate media player and prompt it to play our audio stream. Some people seem to have problems, particularly with Windows Media Player. If installed, it tends to highjack audio, even if it can't play it. And some versions can't seem to play mp3 streams, even though they are an industry standard. We have created 2 pop-up players to take advantage of Real Audio and Quicktime plug-ins which are often installed on your computer. If these don't seem to work, it is probably because you either don't have the underlying player installed or, there is a problem with the plug-in or the preference settings of your browser directing your browser to use the plug-in.

First, we have a QuickTime pop up player which will play the broadcast in your browser if you have the QuickTime plug-in installed. Click on the link below:

click here to use our QuickTime pop-up player!

It uses a QuickTime player, embedded in a web page. This works because we embed a call to a "qtif" quicktime file instead of an mp3 stream. In almost all browsers, the preferences are set (and aren't inadvertently or purposely changed) to play qtif files through the QuickTime player and since QuickTime handles mp3 streams just fine, we've essentially tricked your computer into avoiding Windows Media Player. QuickTime gets up and running, ready to receive the qtif file, which turns out to be our little mp3 stream. However, if you can't seem to get the QuickTime pop-up player to work, then click on the blue link below to give the RealAudio pop-up player a try.

click here to use our RealAudio pop-up player!

It uses a RealAudio player, embedded in a web page. This works because we embed a call to a "smil" file instead of an mp3 stream. In almost all browsers, the preferences are set (and aren't inadvertently or purposely changed) to play smil files through the Real Audio player and since Real Audio handles mp3 streams just fine, we've essentially tricked your computer into avoiding Windows Media Player. Real Audio gets up and running, ready to receive the smil media file, which turns out to be our little mp3 stream.

3. If all else fails. Manually enter the file name in your player. If neither clicking the direct stream link nor clicking on our popup player link works for you, try copying and pasting one of the following web addresses directly into your player (what I mean is you'll need to highlight one of the web addresses below, and then under the edit menu of your browser select copy. Then you'll need to launch your media player (ie, Realplayer, iTunes, Quicktime or WinAmp, etc) and find an option entitled "Open URL" or "Open Location" or Open Stream in one of the drop down menus; and paste the address you just copied in there):
